Coordinates the various activities offered to the FQMS community after the school day.
The chair registers our school with several organizations and make sure that parents are able to select FQ to receive bonus points. All proceeds go directly to our school.
After researching the many artists and groups available to us, it plans and coordinates a balanced calendar of acts to enhance the students’ educational experiences. Last year, our children were delighted with a slam artist, a poet, and several musicians.
This group of volunteers coordinates programs which foster goodwill towards others, i.e., canned food, book and coat drives, as well as provide education to our school community through various community projects. The committee members will work together to plan and execute these projects. It is sure to be a very rewarding experience.
Directory Committee
Provides every family with the school’s annual directory. After each family completes the information form, the committee enters the data, edits, proofreads, prints and distributes copies to all families.
Create new beds and maintains the entrance garden and planting beds surrounding the school. In order to keep our school as chemical-free as possible, workdays are scheduled using volunteers to help weed, spread mulch and plant.
Grade Activities
A chair and a group of volunteers to coordinate and prepare all activities for that grade in conjunction with the staff represent each grade. The 8th grade chair is in charge of the end of year celebration for outgoing 8th graders.
This committee’s function is to keep the FQMS community, Board of Education, and county and state government representatives informed about the overcrowding issues facing our school. This is a very serious concern for FQMS as we opened at full capacity and the population of western Howard County continues to grow. The committee works with the PTA Council of Howard County to monitor changes proposed by the school system (i.e. redistricting, new school construction, etc.) and to determine any impact on FQ.
Health and Safety
This committee prepares and distributes information throughout the year of interest to the kids. Last year, there was a wealth of information coming from this committee, always presented in a fun way.
Provides refreshments for various functions during the school year including Back-to-School Night, American Education Week and the year-end PTA Volunteer and staff dinner. Volunteers are used to staff refreshment tables and prepare items to be served at these functions.
This group prepares and collects all information needed for a successful three-day event for the sixth grade. Under staff guidance, volunteers are assigned a job during the day or night.
This committee facilitates FQMS only fundraising of the year. The magazine drive runs for three weeks starting in late September. Duties include distributing information about the magazine drive, collecting and tabulating the orders received, and distributing prizes to students during lunch shifts.
Responsible for organizing PTA membership drive during the school year, collecting dues, and maintaining membership records. This committee uses volunteers to man sign-up tables at school events.
Gathers photos of all the great times during the year and creates the layouts that form the FQMS yearbook. Most of this work is done in the early spring. If you like scrap booking, this is the committee for you
Collects news items, formats text, adds graphics and prints the biweekly PTA newsletter. All articles are submitted electronically to the chairperson. who posts them on the school PTA website.
Parent Resources
This group will be in charge of inviting guest speakers or others parties in order to provide some guidance for parents in dealing with pre teens and teenagers.
Coordinates student submissions to the national PTA Reflections arts program. Volunteers collect, review and submit entries to the county level and distribute participation certificates/awards to students.
Selects clothing designs and items displaying our school name and colors. Conducts spirit wear sales at various PTA events and through order forms sent home with each student.
We like to indulge our great staff! The committee caters several events during the year. We provide dinner for teachers during conference times, special gestures of thanks throughout the year and a big year-end party for the whole staff. This committee is perfect for those who like creative event planning, cooking and baking, and party decorating.
Volunteer Committee
A pivotal position! The chair distributes forms to solicit volunteers in the fall for both classroom and PTA committees. These are then compiled into lists and given to school and committee chairs. Get your name in if you would like to participate. Remember: A great school demands lots of volunteers.
Ways and Means
This year, we will have different people handle our fundraisers, each group in charge of one event, in order to lighten the load of this committee. The first one is a Magazine drive. Please, support this activity and we will not need another fundraiser.
